For example, a 400W solar panel receiving 4.5 peak sun hours each day can generate approximately 1.8 kWh of electricity daily. Multiplying this value by 30 days, we find that such a solar panel can produce around 54 kWh of electricity in a month.
To calculate solar panel output per day (in kWh), we need to check only 3 factors: Solar panel’s maximum power rating. That’s the wattage; we have 100W, 200W, 300W solar panels, and so on. How much solar energy do you get in your area? That is determined by average peak solar hours.
These wattages are measured at 1,000W/m2, 25°C (77°F), and air density of 1.5 kg/m3. All the energy efficiency of solar panels (15% to 25%), type of solar panels (monocrystalline, polycrystalline), tilt angles, and so on are already factored into the wattage.
On average, you can expect: Assuming 5 peak sun hours: 100W × 5 hours = 500 watt-hours (0.5 kWh) per day. In optimal conditions: The panel may produce up to 600-700 watt-hours (0.6-0.7 kWh) daily. In less favorable conditions: The output could drop to as low as 300-400 watt-hours (0.3-0.4 kWh) per day.
In states with sunnier climates like California, Arizona, and Florida, where the average daily peak sun hours are 5.25 or more, a 400W solar panel can generate 63 kWh or more of electricity per month.
