Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), through its subsidiary East Asia Utilities Corporation (EAUC), is set to construct a 30-megawatt (MW) hybrid Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) within the Mactan Economic Zone, reinforcing efforts to improve grid reliability in the Visayas region.
The Masinloc Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is the first battery energy storage facility in the Philippines and one of the first in Southeast Asia. We started our venture into battery energy storage technology in 2018 when we acquired this 10 MW system from AES Philippines.
“Together with forward-thinking partners, we are ready to shape and strengthen a robust green energy system in the Philippines and Southeast Asia,” he added. SUMEC Philippines General Manager Lennon Zong highlighted the role of advanced storage in the Philippines’ clean energy journey.
Slated for commissioning in the first half of 2026, the facility is one of the first large-scale energy storage systems in Central Visayas. It aims to support rising power demand from industries and businesses in the area and enhance grid stability amid the energy transition.
DOE Central Visayas Director Renante Sevilla lauded the BESS project in Mactan, saying that Cebu needs additional power investments given its rapid progress. / KOC
